Venuestar Review Classically renovated and richly painted, this really is the shining star of North Fitzroy. Patrons are welcomed by the front bar, where they place food and drink orders before ambling into the back rooms and plonking onto couches and chairs, or tall seats around a majestic dining table. Touches like flowers, mantles and magazines made us feel like we were in someone's house. But not just anyone's. The owner, Patricia O'Donnell, operates the popular Mietta's Queenscliff Hotel and is sister to groundbreaking restaurateur Mietta O'Donnell, whose death in early 2001 made headlines in Melbourne.
Carlton Draught and Cascade Lager are on tap, and a variety of imported beers are also on offer. Spirits are strictly served with Schweppes mixers. The mostly 25+ crowd is a variety of professionals and students attracted to the Star's platter-style meals, and to the cosy surrounds in which to eat, drink and chat. Julie Whiting
