Venuestar Review Beer has been flowing here since the 1850s, but the Brunswick has taken care of itself and has renovated over time. Cosy touches like exposed brick, old fashioned carpet, bamboo blinds and mounted TVs ensure that the environment is far from sterile though, and the hotel's unpretentiousness has proven popular with locals and students. The front room looks onto Sydney Road and has a quaint wooden dance floor, while at the back there is a pool table and windows looking onto Weston Street and nearby Barkly Square Shopping Centre. Besides the people-watching, there is plenty of imported beer, art on the walls and a magazine rack to entertain. If you get too absorbed in any of those pursuits there is a wall full of vintage clocks to remind you that it's bedtime! Outdoor Area / Beer Garden Don't forget the beer garden, either. Live Music Venue Live music is the centre of attention here, with bands on just about every night of the week. Gig guide's on the pub's website. Julie Whiting

Readers' Reviews The place has a real relaxed feel, like what a typical great Aussie pub should have. The bartenders are all friendly and easy going, they seem to actually want to interact with the customers. The type of people there change everytime I visit, probably it depends on the bands that play but mostly sit between the 20-40s bracket. The beer garden is awesome though and if you don't like the music inside, you can lie on the banana lounges or couches outside and easily chat with friends or clients. I think what people like the most is that the place isn't sterile; There's a whole grass area, trees and a pond of goldfish - makes you feel like you're in someone's backyard. The Brunny is somewhere I recon could easily become your local because it's just a good place to go and each night is always different to the next. Louisa, Brunswick, 11/10 Without doubt the greatest pub on Earth. Michael and the great staff provide a warm and inviting atmosphere where locals and regulars are happy to share their favourite space with the many and varied visitors (many of whom invariably end up as regulars). The new beer garden is spectacular with seating a premium during the warmer drinking weather and the heaters working to keep the chill off in the colder months. The beer is always clan and crisp whether it be the old staple of Carlton Draught or a dash of Little Creatures or any of the other half dozen on tap. Plenty of other drinks in the fridge and a great wine selection. Great live music every single night and ordering in food from many local eateries is never a problem. It'd be my home if they let me sleep there, I loves it. Matt Jebus Jones, Brunswick, 09/08
