Venuestar Review Kooky and kitsch has become the norm at drinkeries these days, but Butterfly Club takes it to a new level. With a collection of old clocks, lace doilies, porcelain dolls and plastic nick nacks that would make nanna blush, the venue hasn't come far from its terrace house origins of yesteryear.
You get the feeling of being at a house warming where you don't quite know any of the guests. We loved the cosy feel and the mixed crowd.
Cabaret and other off-beat performances like yodelling and impersonators feature regularly, and there is also a bar upstairs. Ask about Butterfly's function packages.

Strangers become intimate friends rather quickly if proximity is any gauge - there just isn't room to be stand-offish. The decor is wonderful - if you're a "Billy no mates" don't fret - just pretend to be looking at the multitude of interesting objects de'tacky. If you remember the 1970's prepare to cringe as you note all the stuff that has somehow escaped from your Mum's idea of home beautiful circa 1969. It's hard to look out of place as the crowd is varied. The stage space is tiny but is perfect for a collection of offbeat performances.
Oh and using the downstairs dunny is kinda public so if you suffer from performance anxiety use the glorious upstairs boudoir. Alison, Edithvale, 11/09

Readers' Reviews Visited last week and easily came to the conclusion that The Butterfly Club is nothing short of unbelievable, without a doubt the most unique bar in Melbourne, the walls and ceilings are covered with all manner of kitschy objects, the music is priceless, the ambience is nothing short of enchanting. Melbourne's best kept secret, elite without being exclusive. James, South Melbourne, 10/08 Loved it. Took my rather groovy mum along, and we sat and chatted in the very Oscar Wilde-esque upstairs parlour, then went downstairs and saw a fantastic performance by a very talented female singer - can't remember her name, but she finished up with an acapella version of 'summertime' - just beautiful.
