Venuestar Review This European style wine bar and restaurant is a good spot for wine lovers, and great for a tipple even if you're not hungry. Walters was created by former ballet dancers Walter and Maria Bourke who cut their teeth on 'Maria and Walters' in Carlton in 1978 (named Restaurant of the Decade by The Age Good Food Guide twelve years later).
Placing as much importance on the role of its sommeliers as that of its chefs, Walter's substantial 'by the glass' menu is complemented by a more extensive list of bottles available. Both menus represent regions in Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
Grab a table and enjoy the view of the Yarra and Southbank, or sit at the bar and watch the kitchen staff whip up gourmet delights. With lots of wood, the kitchen in full view and other bits and pieces on display the decor is far from sterile, and good glassware makes for a pleasant quaffing experience.
Walters Wine and Food store opposite offers the chance to take home the wines and specialty produce available in the wine bar. Julie Whiting
