The bar area is cosy with good, cheap pub meals and several beers on tap. The restaurant has a more European feel and a regularly changing menu of a la carte delights.
Tucked away beyond the Flagstaff Gardens, parking is readily available, particularly in the evenings. In an age of chain pub, chain coffee shop, etc. it is great to find a real and proper local pub serving good beer, good wine, good food in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. Readers' Reviews Not many of these gems left in Melbourne these days. An old style pub with warm and welcoming staff. Meals were HUGE and delicious. Its great to see that pubs like this are still able to survive as it would be a pity to see them all turn into fancy bars or gastro pubs. I'll be going back to this little cracker for sure. Mark, Pascoe Vale, 03/11 I have attended the Royal Standard twice recently and found it to be very relaxed with the staff making you feel very welcome. The meals are like home cooked meals, big servings and very tasty. I attended on a Tuesday night and they had a blues band playing apparently the Blues Society have different performers each week. The artists were of high quality. With the the entertainment and food I certainly will be going back and telling my friends of my experience.
