Venuestar Review Tucked away in the back streets, the Rose has long been a favourite of the locals. Leaning against the bar is the done thing, with both staff and fellow drinkers eager to chat about anything from the footy to what's cooking for dinner.
There's plenty of room for everyone, but all the tables will usually be gone - however a rear dining area tends to take some of the load off the front rooms. Outdoor Area / Beer Garden A small outdoor area has tables and chairs so you'll be able to enjoy not just a beer, but your dinner too. Simon Woodhouse Second Opinion The Rose has been going strong since 1960 and with plenty of beers on tap and a big screen for sport. Being tucked away from the main drag hasn't stopped it from being one of Fitzroy's hotspots. Julie Whiting Readers' Reviews We visit the Rose every time we're in Melbourne.. Great little pub with a lot of character! I had the best mixed grill ever there last Friday night (4 Feb) during the big storms.. superb meal, icy cold beer and very friendly staff. 10/10 for us. Readers' Reviews My favourite little pub in Melbourne, an absolute hidden gem. I don't often venture there these days but whenever I'm in the general vicinity I make certain I have at least one at the bar. None better for a quiet drink and to escape all the wannabes in Brunswick St. John, Langwarrin, 11/10 Traversing the character-rich streets of Fitzroy, we were looking for a similarly enamoured tavern when we came across the Rose. A chilly Friday night in Melbourne but the atmosphere inside was warm and inviting. A horseshoe shaped bar with pictures of Tiger and Lion greats on the walls overseeing the quiet quaffing of many a refreshing ale. Definitely a great place to go if you enjoy the older style (showing my age, but it took me back to the 70's) pub and you arent that interested in bands or hot music. Just relax and enjoy some good conversation, heart warming drinks, solid pub grub and as my partner put it to borrow from the Castle: 'The Vibe'. Milo, Collingwood, 07/06
