Venuestar Review If nothing on Brunswick Street takes your fancy, veer down Johnston Street to this renovated pub for a soothing drink of mead. Don't worry about the suit of armour inside - it's not a bouncer, just a token of the medieval theme.
Beyond the chic floorboarded front room there is a big back room, divided by the DJ area into mini nightclub and booth-seating section. At the end of the venue is the chillout section with a pool table, old chairs and red lighting.
Plenty of hip young things fill the Rochester on weekends, when pop and commercial dance tunes pump. Outdoor Area / Beer Garden A medium-sized beer garden awaits out back. Julie Whiting Second Opinion A very long pub that transforms from a cosy front room with suit of armour, into a mini club together with boothed seating and DJ further down. Make your way through all that and the pool room and beer garden awaits! Mark Davies

Readers' Reviews The Rochester's also great if you like watching live sport. This place rocked during the Rugby World Cup - just getting through the door was an achievement. Two huge screens pump out the pictures in the front and back bars, and this great little corner pub in the thick of it is ideal for watching footy over a few jars come winter time. Highly recommended and very friendly vibe. Cheers Rochy. Mick, Fitzroy, 11/03
