Readers' Reviews The Preston Hotel just re-opened after a refurb (July 2009). It is a TAB of course, but thankfully all the pokies and dog racing (etc) is now confined to rooms out the back, so (for me at least) the front bar is the place to go. The front bar faces High Street - it has large windows and two sets of double doors which open onto the street. All this lets in a good amount of light, creating an nice open airy feeling. The decor is modern and comfortable without the slightest hint of being pretentious. The place is generally not busy - apart from the usual Friday and Saturday nights of course. At any other time it's a great place to sit and grab a beer/wine - you can easily chat with your mates 'cause there's no overbearing music and the bar staff are chatty and friendly too. My only complaint is that they *still* do not offer meals - only packets of chips and nuts etc.
