Venuestar Review Before it fills up with hundreds of revellers (around 1500 on a Saturday) Market impresses with its various luxurious levels of Eastern styling, stunning simplicity and lots of space. In the wee hours when it peaks, it's the fantastic atmosphere and hoards of funlovers that make it special. And since management prides itself on a non-aggressive gay and straight-friendly crowd that is there for a good time, you're bound to have one too.
Beyond the bar downstairs the dancefloor beckons, with a hydraulic stage that is raised when the act of the night starts its drag show, juggling or whatever interesting performance is lined up.
After midnight (when there's not a private function booked), you'll be lucky enough to check out the more chilled out second level, which has bean bags and a good view of the dancefloor and stage.
The market is open late or shall we say early, especially Saturday night when you can soak up the vibe until 11am the next day.
It's a key venue in Melbourne's gay and lesbian scene. Well worth checking out if you like a fun, happening scene - and let's face it, who doesn't? Julie Whiting

Readers' Reviews The people are friendlier than most other gay venues, and you can find yourself sitting down next to a complete stranger and winding up talking for hours. There are areas to suit most people's needs, with the energetic types pumping it up on the (very psychedelically lit) dancefloor and the more reserved types chatting and relaxing in the upstairs cocktail bar. The music ranges from dance early in the evening, to hard house around 3am when The Market really picks up, to softer, more relaxing music for the early morning come-down. Saturday is undoubtedly the biggest night at The Market, frequently with over 1000 (approximately) people in the building at the peak of the night (around 3:00 am). Hope this review has helped, and I hope you enjoy your night out at The Market.
