Readers' Reviews The Footscray Club is an old venerable institution in Footscray - started as a cycling club in 1894. Its a 2nd story venue on Paisley street right in the heart of Footscray. It is 2 blocks from the Footscray train station and several buses stop right in front of the club. It's a members club but membership is easy and the club management welcome you come up to see the place. I found that the welcome was warm and the atmosphere jovial. Many Footscray locals are members and after a while you get to know the regulars. Recently the club has been renovated and the interior is cosy, fresh and clean. There are 4 plasma screen TVs a great sound system, free wireless internet and a newly renovated bar - with a couple of very cold beers on tap. Its not a cocktail lounge. The small range of wine and spirits and packaged drinks covers the usual range. The prices are very reasonable and they serve typical Aussie fair some days for lunch. The club is often used as a function room and its very inexpensive - on a they run the bar you use the venue basis. It is a true community club, diverse and with a membership typical of the area. I find it handy to visit after work, get on line and relax. Being a club you know you can enjoy yourself in a safe, clean familiar environment. Its a cheerful place to visit if you are tired or wary of the local Footscray pub scene. Edward, Footscray, 05/09
