Readers' Reviews Wow what a transformation. I was a resident of East Brunswick for many years and a patron of the East Brunswick Hotel. I went to two shows their recently and could not get over the changes to the hotel. Gone of have the old sad staff and in have come bright new happy faces who are generally happy too see you. Gone the old locals who didn't want outsiders in THEIR pub and in have come a hip relaxed crowd. I went there several times while I was in Melbourne and there seemed to be different people there each night to see their favourite musicians. Trivia on Tuesday nights was a real laugh or though a bit blue at times a lot of fun. Each night I went the place was packed either to see a band or to see their favourite sport played on the two big screens. Soccer was on one night with a very cosmopolitan mixed crowd and on the Saturday night lotsa kiwis cheering on the All Blacks. Great atmosphere and very friendly. Food is great and they are still well known for their magnificant parmigianas. I must congratulate the owners for their foresight in transforming the hotel to the venue it is now. Retep, Gippsland, 09/07 The East has undergone somewhat of a cultural change over the last year or so. While there is still a TAB next door and the main bar features two large screen TVs for sport (AFL, cricket, rugby union), evenings and weekends ususally feature a live band (free entry) and the crowd is decidely younger and er ... middle classer ... than before. Cheap but decent meals (including MASSIVE chicken schnitzels), good pool tables and couches make it a pleasant enough local pub.
The "club" next door is an excellent dedicated live music venue with room for perhaps 200 people. Colin, Brunswick, 09/05
