Readers' Reviews The newest bar and lounge on Southbank, Eve is a subterranean venue with 4 bars, outdoor courtyard and VIP areas. With a rumoured $3 million spent on the venue, it certainly shows. You enter via the gold doors just off City Road and descend the stairs in the large foyer. From reception you step down again to the main bar and dance floor level. To the left are the guest bathrooms, going past the VIP bar and straight ahead is the large main bar. The dancefloor is straight out of Saturday Night Fever, with large flashing coloured panels and a DJ booth overlooking the dancefloor and elevated private rooms. A glass enclosed and lavishly decked out side room leads to another bar located under the main entry stairs. From here you have access to the outdoor courtyard (which is actually below street level but is open to the night sky and features patio heaters and timber lined seating. In terms of clientele, Eve makes a big play for the glamour set and it appears to be working, with many of Melbourne's clubbers relishing the high class nature of the venue and dressing accordingly. Suits, shirts and fashion tees being the order of the day (well.. night) for the guys and the girls going for light and breezy dresses and evening wear. The venue appeals to both the younger and older age groups, predominantly 18 to 30. Saturday nights are the busiest with a large queue forming outside by 9pm. With people still queuing into the early hours of the morning, guestlist is recommended as its a very long wait without one. The club really pumps from around 11pm onwards with the dancefloor, private rooms and outdoor bar all very busy. Drink prices, whilst not cheap, are in line with similar venues in Melbourne.
