Readers' Reviews Always a friendly place to be, with a splendid range of beers, free foosball, and fun tunes. They do food - foccacias and tapas and the like and it's well tasty. Check out the upstairs for the art exhibitions as well. It's a good local crowd, and always a mix. A few of the older West Melbourne blokes hang out there, but so do the younger kids. It's got a very relaxed vibe that makes all kinds feel welcome. Kimberley, Ascot Vale, 08/06

Readers' Reviews We went to Jawa the week it opened and the owner was extremely friendly and welcoming, including free bowl of Popcorn to help the beers down. She is Czech as is the motorbike after which the Bar is named. Has a reasonable drinks list, including a few imports such as Velkopopovicky Kozel and Pacena. Good room out back for a chat, and the front bar is all you want it to be. Ed, North Melbourne, 03/05 Tomato Bar (or was it Tomato Fish Bar?) waa great when it existed! Retro, euro-design furniture, friendly staff. Felt like someone's very cool lounge room. Like your own private party when it was full. But then it closed down very, very suddenly with a notice on the door about the landlord having the right to enter the premises at any time!
Now it's Jawa Bar. I haven't been in but I've walked past and had a peek in. Although with a huge motorbike in the front window now, most of the decor seems to remain the same. A friend said it was great for a couple drinks on her own after work once. Erin, North Melbourne, 03/05
